Annual Picnic

Please join us one week later than our normal monthly meeting time for the annual GCPCUG picnic. On August 16th at 12:00 PM we will have plenty of delicious food and a blazing hot fire at Horseshoe Lake Park in Shaker Heights. This park is one of the nicest local parks in the area. Horseshoe Lake Park is the result of five years of planning and $800,000 in improvements. There are trails, a boardwalk over a wetlands area, pavilions, and a natural play area.

The park is easy to find. It is between Fairmount Boulevard, Shaker Boulevard and just east of Lee Road. (See the map and directions.) Parking is available on Park Drive as you enter the park. The picnic area is inside the horseshoe of the lake. When you get there look for the large black and white GCPCUG banner.

We will have hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, buns, ketchup, mustard, drinks and eating utensils. Please bring a tasty hot or cold covered dish to share. Snack foods and desserts are also very welcome. Come hungry, come early and have fun. Bring your hiking boots to help walk off lunch. Anyone with yard games is encouraged to bring them. Raffle Guy, John Kullander, is expected to climb down from the top of the pavilion into a stone fireplace with an assortment of goodies for the young and nearly young. We plan to be at the park until at least 5 PM. This is a family oriented no alcohol event. We hope to see you and your family and friends. Please contact us with any questions.

There is parking on the side of the road. In the park, there is some handicapped parking at the end of the entrance road. The picnic shelter is located there. The park has public restrooms.

Horseshoe Lake Park in Shaker Heights is between Fairmount Blvd. and Shaker Blvd., just east of Lee Rd (See the map on the back of the newsletter). From Lee Rd., you can go east on either South Park Blvd. or North Park Blvd. From downtown, head for University Circle, go east up Cedar Hill, and then east on Fairmount to Lee Road. From I-271, get off at either Cedar Road or Chagrin Blvd. and head west to Lee Road.

From Lee Road, if you go east on South Park Blvd., take the first left onto Park Dr. and then another left into the park. Going east on North Park Blvd., take the first right and stay on North Park as it curves and becomes Park Dr. Bear right on Park Dr. and enter into the park. Note, Lee Road maybe under construction and only one lane in each direction.
